FEES or Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing is a method of evaluating swallow function in patient with dysphagia from a variety of diagnosis. The system is portable so the study can be conducted in facility with real food. A small endoscope is passed through the nare of the resident or patient to evaluate functioning of the pharynx (musculature of the back of the throat). From this procedure, diet and exercise recommendations can be made to facilitate safety and improvement of the patient.
